MARIA LUISA GARITO
Italian director and scriptwriter, she decided to move to NYC in 2008 since the “American dream” will never die. She worked as director in different short movies and as assistant director in different cinematographic and television projects. She has a big passion for writing and the big dream to be able to work in various projects from different artistic fields. Her other passions are photography and drawing. Photography gave her some visibility in different expositions in Rome, between 2005-2007. Drawing remains in her most intimate and solitary moments. She studied Management Engineering at “La Sapienza” University of Rome. During the Erasmus project in 2003 she spent a year in Madrid, Spain, where she found her passions for visual arts. In 2006 she graduated from The School of Direction and Cinematography Production of Roberto Piovani in Rome, where she won a full scholarship that the school offered. She lives in New York, where she works on her writings projects and cinema. She feels she could’t find a more stimulating place to live.

Italian as well, she studied Agriculture Sciences and Technology in Florence where she lived for 9 years. Her background gave her a deep sense of observation and curiosity for everything around her. Once she tried to do photography with a shoe box she couldn’t stop herself. She worked in a photo store in Florence for almost two years, she collaborated for Altarosa, an Italian Organic Clothes fashion firm. She collaborated with a Japanese Sculptor. Once she arrived in New York she understood the magic that flows in this city and she understood that the best place for her is behind her cameras. She considers herself a generalist, “since the light doesn’t make exceptions”, but what she loves most are people and nature. She is the official photographer for Lootok, Ltd, a Risk Management company based in NYC. She has recently started to do photography as freelancer for weddings, private and public events and families. She lives in New York, where she tries to improve her skills in photography and her love for the arts and artists. She is attending a four-week filmmaking workshop at The New York Film Academy. Her dream is to write a photography book for children using puppets made by her.
